inspired by stone walls - again!

I love the abstract pattern this lichen makes on the wall. Lichens come in so many shapes and colours and change again when the walls are wet.

I have been looking at some wonderful paintings of fungi by Beatrix Potter. She was a careful observer of fungi and lichens and also drew what she saw under the microscope. This was before she started writing the famous Peter Rabbit stories. What a talented lady!

I believe the Armitt Library in Ambleside holds some of these drawings. That's another place on my 'to visit' list.
