Dale's Defunct Brewery.

Dale's Brewery, Gwydir Street Cambs. Nowadays housing antique shops. As children, we would queue for the Saturday cinema in a passageway near the clock, and while we waited, would carve our names in the soft red brick with the edge of a coin. The Kinema ( or flea pit) as it was known, was just around the corner in Mill Road. My sister and I were not allowed to mix with the 'riff-raff' in the threepenny seats, but were given sixpence each to sit at the back. However, we usually got threepennyworth of sweets and sat in the front. My sister was about 4 years old and I was 6. We lived quite nearby and were allowed to go on our own,as were most of our friends,which seems unbelievable these days. If the films were good (2 then) we would stay to see them again, and a message often came up on screen for so and so to get home at once ! Kinema was demolished years ago.
