The Hain Steamship Co

Ive looked at this door for years and wondered what the story was.

Looking into it more The Hain Steamship Co goes back to about 1816 and was renamed Edward Hain & Son around 1850. The company HQ was in St Ives Town centre until 1918 when it moved to wales and was subsequently brought out by P&O.

So, I wondered why the door says Established 1889. I also wonder why it's near the harbour as the company didnt seem to trade goods out of St Ives which is too tidal for steamships.

I asked about and the answer is easy, its a fake painted by someone as a joke about 30 years ago on an old warehouse door.
