Trocadero, from the top of the Tour Eiffel
Today we got up relatively early again to go to the Eiffel Tower. We arrived after stopping for crepes for breakfast (nutella, of course) to see a huge queue with an estimated waiting time of two hours!!! It was raining and windy, and generally horrible. So, we decided to walk up. We walked up 600 odd stairs to the second level of the Eiffel Tower before getting the lift up to the top, by which time the clouds had cleared a bit and it was sunny and windy. The view was definitely worth the climb, and those who say the view from the top of the Arc de Triomphe is better must be crazy!
After coming down we wandered along and found a market where we bought lunch. Next was a trip up to Montmartre, where we sat in a cafe next to the Moulin Rouge for coffee and then wandered up past a cake shop (stopping for a lemon meringue cupcake) towards the Sacre Coeur. It was lovely inside and outside, and sunny too. We had a fantastic view back over to the Eiffel tower as well!
Next was back over to the Ile de France to see Notre Dame, which we had to queue to get into as well!!! It was lovely inside, and we caught the start of a mass before escaping. We wandered back to a cafe in the latin quarter and drank mojitos and ate tapas before going back to the river for our cruise down the Seine at dusk to see all the sights.
Finally dinner back near the hotel (+ wine), and to bed.
