Market Buildings

More building history.

This is one of the old market buildings in St Peter Port which are now housed by various high street stores. This building is now a Co-op.

The buildings were designed by the prolific architect John Wilson who designed a number of buildings in Guernsey in the early 19th century (St James Church, Elizabeth College, French Halles)

Interesting fact I found in my research about the Guernsey markets was that before the buildings were built the markets were situated in Castel because it is much more central. With the popularity of the port in St Peter Port the markets were moved to town.
