Schlock

I once dropped a line to an american who was coming to stay as a B&B guest. "Don't use up all your luggage allowance hauling books - we have several thousand and you're bound to find something to suit you" I wrote. She replied immediately. "Yes, but what kind of books? I'm a writer you know, I can't read schlock" I didn't reply. She later wrote to ask if we had Proust's A la recherche du temps perdu Vol II in an English translation. Tongue in cheek I wrote back "Doesn't everybody?"

The only good thing about being groggy is that I have the perfect excuse to read schlock all day.
