MAX Line Art - Interstate / Rose Quarter Station

After a wonderful meeting today with my cousin's birthsister, I ventured home taking an unknown route (love the GPS)! Just before heading over the Willamette River, and while sitting at an intersection waiting for the LONG light (due to several MAX transit trains) I noticed a beautiful sculpture of trees in front of me. I grabbed my camera and got this shot, and then went home to do a bit of research about the beautiful ART we have at so many of our MAX Train stops here in the city of Portland.

This particular sculpure was done by Brian Borrello and presents a three-part metaphor for displacement and change.
...Illuminated metal trees generate their own electricity from solar panels.
...A virtual campfire flickers with light at night, surrounded by stainless steel stump seats.
...Light filtering through colored glass on shelter roofs simulates the dappled light of a forest.
...Concrete tree rings in the platform symbolize the forest once abundant on the site.
...Custom guardrails feature branching tree limbs and roots.

This sculture looks even more amazing at night when it is lit up. Our city has some of the best art...both in the museums and on the street:))
