Bruce was in his penultimate Grand Prix event of the 2011/12 season. It's all getting quite tight now as Bruce has had to move up to U66kg meaning he loses half his points tally gained at the lower weight.

He needed to win today, and again in Inverness in 3 weeks - job half done as he took top spot and beat the current points leader and is only trailing by 10 points.

The referee in this photo is also one of the coaches at Bruce's club. Allan Philip is one of the UK's most senior referees and gave him his first Shido ever for appealing for a Shido to be awarded against his opponent, it's just not the done thing in Judo. (A Shido is a minor penalty, if you get 4 you are disqualified)
