Crags and Cyclists
Today was the day to Pedal on Parliament. I joined the Fife Feeder Ride at Inverkeithing and cycled across the Forth Road Bridge then on to The Meadows in Edinburgh where I couldn't believe how many cyclists I saw. We had lunch then were marshalled into a very long queue ready to go. The place was packed - I've seen figures of 2,000 - 3,000 quoted - and after a minutes silence at 3pm the mass ringing of bike bells signified the off. It was a slow start and we inched our way up onto the Royal Mile - it was amazing and surreal to be in such a huge group of bikes riding past the iconic Edinburgh buildings. The route ended outside Parliament and here we all spread out and heard some speeches. Here is some of the crowd with the crags as a backdrop [note the guy with a bike with 4" wide tyres!]. After a few rousing speeches, it was time to cycle back over to Fife, eager to step up the campaign to make Scotland a cycle-friendly nation.
