Urban cowslips

These have appeared in clumps along the Union Canal as it passes Dumbryden, Wester Hailes and Sighthill on the west side of Edinburgh. The schemes were built in the 60s and early 70s at which point the canal was culverted: after all, what use was a polluted stretch of industrial waterway. It was very successfully restored and reopened for the millennium.
