derby

today was one of those blur-of-a-day's: the theme of this weekend. a short run this morning despite feeling a little crappy, and then four hours at BRIT.

after: the grocery store, which i have put off for really a horrifically long time (3+ weeks since the last time...). then just an hour or two at home straightening up and getting some things in order.

jess is in her 3rd season of roller derby with the dallas derby devils now. opening bout of the season tonight and her team was in excellent form, considering they came in 4th (out of 5) in the championship bout last season. they are the ones in gold here (she's the one on the left wearing the striped helmet). she plays for the travel team too, now. really an excellent player - she has come a long way in 3 seasons. roller derby is one of those things i would never be able to do. i can't skate worth a damn and i hate falling.

it's about to be may and tomorrow i am going on one of those horrible/awesome austin-and-back-in-10-hours trips. trying to figure out the rest of my life. probably failing. but, look for an atx blip.

i am actively working on taking everything in my life a little slower. this is something i have never been able to do well, except maybe on the ride. i have improved more than i could possibly articulate since 4 or 5 years ago, but i still remain in this hurried rush about some things. deep breaths, take it slow - trying to squash the fear that everything will disappear unless you make it happen now.
