Giant golf balls
I've often run past this sculpture on Levenmouth roundabout and wondered what it is. Today on my run, I braved the Musselburgh traffic and got onto the actual roundabout to take a quick picture.
We all know that Musselburgh is home to a famous race course, but that's not all. Apparently, Musselburgh also has the world's oldest golf course too.
In 2009, Ronnie Elliott created this sculpture as a tribute to the two sports. It is of course, a giant golf ball, balancing on a tee. But if you look closely you also see that it's made up of 439 horseshoes and also features the image of a running horse. (I didn't stop and count the horseshoes, I only stopped for a second)
That isn't the only sports Musselburgh is famous for. Of course, close to my heart, is the Edinburgh Marathon which runs through and ends here too. I demand they add a running tribute of me to the sculpture. Good god, could you imagine that monstrosity? ;)
Just a half marathon today, got a 20 miler planned for next Sunday - my last long run before the taper begins. Only 28 days to M- day!
