Sinkhole Jump
Day 7 in Oman
For the next few days we plan on touring the interior of Oman a bit more. We initially headed down the east coast with a stop off at the Bimmah sinkhole in time for lunch. I'll point out that these crazy people jumping from the top (at least 20m high) we just bumped into when we arrived. They both jumped, and most importantly survived unharmed, nutters!
We headed to Sur, managed to get a little lost and encountered the most bizarre diversion ever. The road ahead is closed because the bridge has collapsed. Omani solution - just drive through the river channel the bridge crosses, simple! Madness, but there is logic in there somewhere!
As we were running a little late after the diversions and misdirections we were able to see both the sunset along the Wahiba Sands desert road and a spectacular lightning storm over mountains. I've never seen that kind of fork lightning ever!
A nice relaxing evening in our hotel after a longish day on the road. The hotel, which is particularly rare outside of muscat for being licensed to serve alcohol. There approach to this is to have the bar kitted out with dark red lights that just made it look a particularly seedy joint. The staff were very friendly though and we were able to enjoy a drink outside on a warm evening!
