I like these houses because of their simplicity and they were affordable for people who had previously been unable to own their own homes. However, fibro is a poor insulator and these house are very hot in the summer. The biggest tradgedy is that people either building or renovating with fibro were unknowingly at risk of developing asbestosis or mesothelioma. I have looked after many people who have died form this disease. Fibro is very safe if not torn down or cut: this is when the asbestos particles get into the lung and cause problems several decades later. Many women washing their husbands clothes died after inhaling particles while doing the weekly washing.
