Catnip

A little discovery has been made while exploring the Pepsi Challenge. Sister mentioned to Sheepish Contraptioneer that Pepsi may not like catnip at all. Since it had always been the practice of Mother Comfort to keep a dish of catnip...or a pile on the floor...for Pepsi, we have always done the same. Since we never saw Pepsi over the years (as she hid diligently from those who entered the home) none of us really knew if Pepsi was one of those cats that respond to catnip.

In response to Sister's sharp thinking, we took the bowl of catnip out of Pepsi's house (formerly known as Mother Comfort's house) and introduced it to the neighborhood cat who visited Mother Comfort regularly for snacks. Well, who knew that even the smallest whiff of catnip would turn a respectable kitty cat to mush?? I'm sure some of you knew, but I sure didn't! The response, instant, the behavior disgraceful....poor Big Kitty.

Hmmmmm Mother Comfort gave us a jar of catnip too. Never having done a thing with it (and honestly not sure why she had given it to us...catnip tea perhaps?), we decided a little bowl in the Red Neck Kitty Playground might be kind of interesting. After all, it was very old and couldn't possibly be very strong...or could it?

Dum de dum dum...just another Spring day in the Red Neck Kitty Playground.

Soooooo, we also did a little research on the effect of catnip on kitties and found that one of the effects can be aggressiveness and...hissing! Ya' think that might have been part of Pepsi's attitude? We do. She does seem to have mellowed some since she has not had a CONTINUOUS supply of catnip. Calling kitty poison control....this cat's been stoned for 15 years!
