Bowler Hat

Sorry to leave you all hanging - the cup final on Thursday was postponed because of the foul rain we had all day. It left a big hole and a lot onf emotion in our house and I was so primed to post an image of my boy but couldn't lift him to the task. 9th May is the new date.

My poor boy has waited a very long time to have his room painted. It is full of all his stuff from a time long ago when he was a little boy. For weeks we have been decamping lego, books, airfix plane sets, slimey goo type stuff, a mass of rubber balls and playmobile to safe havens and other homes to be enjoyed later.

I promised we would make a start today. He was keen to roller paint over his green football pitch wall. I painted that by hand and struggled to see it go. Bowler Hat is his paint of choice. I rather like it - just a feature wall.

Instantly he grew taller, I noticed the chisel in his jaw more pronounced than yesterday, the grubby shadow of a little rat above his top lip, and the twinkle in his eye he is keeping for the girls. I wanted to stop and run out. My baby is growing up and his mama isn't so keen.

We didn't manage to do as much as we planned but we have made a significant change. The stone has rolled and is gathering no moss. We have to keep going tomorrow. He is especially excited at the prospect of getting rid of his bunk beds and having a double bed where he can stretch out and not have his feet sticking out the end. Bloody luxury.
