Quiz #2
"Don't look up," I told them as I positioned my camera. They were busy working on their quiz. Of course they think I am crazy, but a year from now it really won't matter because I will have this photo to remember this day.
The quiz was in two parts. First part required them to write the eight comma rules and an example for each one. Then they had the Scantron portion of the quiz. So as they worked on reading through the questions and marked their Scantrons, I graded their comma portion which they had done first.
I was disappointed at the number that did not study to learn the commas rules and therefore did quite poorly. They were given the comma rule handout on the first class meeting 10 weeks ago when the semester started and told then to memorize the eight rules. Five weeks ago they were quizzed on them. The ones that flunked then, well, I thought they would learn them for this quiz.
So I have decided to focus on the students who earned 100% on the comma rules. They are the people who are excited about learning. This is really a nice group of students and I enjoy being with them.
The classroom is in an industrial building so that is why the room has lockers and looks nothing like the high tech classrooms that are available at the campus. I like this room and request to have it every semester.
Oh, and it poured rain this morning after I got to school. Then the sun broke through and the white clouds spilled over the mountains and the entire area just looked dreamy. The view was beautiful all day in all directions.
The pooches, our three and the two visitors -- the ones that I mentioned on yesterday's page -- well we are still adapting. They slept through the night without any whimpering or whining. I am pleased to announce that none of them fell or jumped into the pool today. I also have to confess that I forgot to push my chair in at the kitchen table just as I was getting ready to fix dinner this evening and little Avery jumped up on my chair and then onto the dining room table (again). I didn't even hear him do it. Mr. Fun walked in and found him walking on the table top and Mr. Fun said to me, "Hey, guess who's on the table?" So I am learning to always push my chair in. Five dogs is a houseful!
Good night from Southern California.
