Water,water everywhere......
So after three days of rain, we finally have a break in the weather. All that rain has got to go somewhere and this picture shows the River Taff cascading over the Treforest Weir.
The weir was built in the Nineteenth century, to dam up the flow and produce a head of water that was initially used to power the machinery at the nearby tin works.
The stone wall construction to the left of the picture housed the sluice gate that controlled the flow of water down a man made channel that ran parallel to the river.
With the discovery of coal in the Rhondda, the "feeder" was no longer required to provide the power, but became the water source to form the steam.
