Potato Fungus

or Paurocotylis pila, native to NZ. Very noticeable but not edible.

Found this fungus when we were doing a bit of gardening with the help of family. I had never seen this fungus and as we were planning to go to the museum tomorrow I picked them and popped them into a container. The fungus on the left shows the underside of the plant and the one on the right is the upper side. Usually found in forests of trees which gives you some idea of how out of hand our back garden has become!!!!
