Prague Train Station
We left Prague this morning for Vienna. The train ride was pretty long (4 hours) but we are all in to good books and the time passed.
This shows the Art nouveau section of the train station. We learned at the Mucha Museum about the dispute currently raging in Prague about where to hang Mucha's major, final work, "The Slav epic". It seems that the Mucha foundation (led by the artist's grandson) would like the work to be exhibited here. After seeing this run down section of the train station, it is hard to imagine exactly where it will go but the building does have wonderful potential. Here is an article about the Mucha controversy. I told the girls that if they come back to Prague as adults, with their families, maybe they'll be able to see it.
We settled in to our tiny hotel room in Vienna and visited Stephansplatz and Mozarthaus in the late afternoon. We had dinner (schnitzel, cabbage, strudel) in a vaulted cellar dating back to 1170. We're looking forward to a full day here tomorrow!
