New Calton Burial Ground

We were at Abbeyhill just round from the Palace when I noticed the view up the New Calton Burial Ground and loved the ramshackle look. The New Calton Burial Ground was opened in 1820 to re bury remains which had to be moved from the old Calton cemetery in order to build Waterloo Place. The small tower on the right is a watchtower to prevent grave robbers. The tower in the centre is The Nelson Memorial which is on Calton Hill.
