Northern Exposure

Thought you said this was hard work!

I spent a happy and productive day in the veg garden. It was sadly neglected last year and was heading that way this year but I'm determined to get it sorted. So it was a day of weeding and digging and clearing and mulching, I even managed to get the spring garlic sown.

Needless to say the hens helped out by making sure all the unwanted grubs and beasties were removed. Although we did have a few discussions about the merits of worms as garden assistants versus tasty treats. They also proved their worth at the dung heap. Where they are dab hands (should that be feet?) at scratching away at the well rotted manure to turn it into a fine tilth for spreading over everything. No sooner had I removed the top layer of crumb than they set to work on the the next lot.

Meanwhile Mr Kat supervised the turning of the compost heaps just to make sure that no cheeky rodents had taken up residence.
