What a hoot!

Another day, another owl! This time we were out looking for koala's in the bush near Brisbane, but again our search was fruitless. James though, spotted this lovely owl and I spent some time setting up the tripod to get a clear shot which was difficult in the shadow cast by the dense eucalyptus. This is the Southern Boobook (Ninox novaeseelandae), and is named after its familiar boo-hook night time call.
