Loony Picnic for the Planet
The Nature Conservancy was promoting world picnics outside today to celebrate Earth Day. I guess they were trying for some sort of record - but one needed picnics of 25 people or more to report. Well, we had 4, but we did have a picnic lunch on the beach on a splendid day in the NW. Right after lunch, these 2 loons showed up. I have been trying for their photo all week, so I just couldn't resist adding them to the photo. :-) They were taken in the same place, same water, same light, (different lens) and I thought they needed to be bigger to be seen - ha! - and there were only 2- ha!. Not a great job, but I wasn't trying to fool anyone and didn't take the time to do it more realistically. There was one loon for a long time and I followed it down the beach and back, then all of a sudden 2 came up out of the water a foot apart. They "nuzzled" for a bit, the one flapping about, and then separated again...not sure which is male and female. We hear them at night.
Took our friends to the marina to go catch the ferry out--we had a good time (and good food!!!) and they helped with lots of little jobs hard for just the 2 of us.. We have another day...
