Gardening Experiment in the desert

Never having grown anything before my husband decided he wanted to have a go at growing vegetables. Think we planted them a bit late, but as it has been cool this spring maybe we will get something. So far the beetroots and tomatoes are doing well plus 2 cucumber plants, everything else either didn't come up or what has come up looks remarkably similar in every row!! Think they might be weeds!

There are challenges to growing vegetables in desert sand, although we did mix some soil in with the sand at the outset. Wonder if any veggies will actually grow or just the leaves, guess it depends on how quickly the heat arrives!

At least the F1 went off without incident, but don't know what life will be like over the next few days. Didn't go out today after seeing that our village (Diraz) was mentioned so many times on the news with the inevitable footage of tyres burning and tear gas! Just an ordinary day in not so sunny Bahrain!
