Balloch
When she was a child Mrs B referred to her Grannies geographically; Granny Orkney and Granny Balloch.
I never got to meet Granny Orkney but, on our trip to the main island a couple of years ago I saw their house, heard the stories and visited their grave. It was touching; it fills the picture in.
I knew and got to love Granny Balloch myself although she has died too now. In her later years she lived with Mrs B's mum in Castle Douglas but she had never been Granny CD.
So today we filled in another part of the family pilgrimage tapestry thing and went to Balloch. It was grey - evocatively grey. The main reason we went was to avoid a sleep deprived row that we knew to be inevitable if we heeded the weather warnings and stayed home. But it was well worth it - even with the AA call out.
We need to complete the grandparent family seat trips now - only my paternal grandparents home town left to do. Watch out sleepy Julianadorp - we're coming.
