Life through the lens...

Plate of pure delights!

Today is my birthday!
I'm very fortunate as I always get a mention on the radio at 8am and they play "God Save The Queen"!! Ha, Ha.

I have had a wonderful day.
The weather has been kind with only a couple of showers and the rest sunshine.

We decided to go out for lunch somewhere different.
Some friends had recommended a pub called The Star at Sancton, near Market Weighton , surrounded by the Yorkshire Wolds.
( the area now made famous by David Hockney in his paintings)

What a wonderful find.
A pub with everything. Very friendly staff. Nice bar so you can just call in for a drink, or have a bar snack, or dine in the restaurant, and fantastic food.
The chef and owner Ben Cox is only in his early thirties. What a great chef!
Today there were families with children aged from babies upwards. Couples like ourselves, parties of young ladies, all made to feel very welcome.

The problem was deciding what we would have to eat as everything on the menu sounded so good.
There was a set menu £15 for two courses or £18 for three, and a bar menu and the A la carte.
MrC had the British beef steak and ale pie with chunky chips and ale gravy.( gravy brought in a little jug)
I decided on;
Rosedale venison loin, blackcurrant and rosemary marinated haunch, Henderson relish and venison suet pudding, roast beet and red wine braised cabbage. ( Well it was my birthday!) We also had a dish of carrots and pod peas.

I was rather full but managed to make room for the Plate of Yorkshire triangle forced rhubarb.
That is what you can see in the photo. (needless to say MrC had it too!)
It consisted of (left to right)
Rhubarb ripple ice cream
Rhubarb Yorkshire Parkin
Rhubarb and custard crumble
Rhubarb syllabub
Rhubarb pannacota

To drink I had a (large) glass of sauvignon blanc from Chile, and a glass of red Rioja with the venison. Then as it was my birthday the waiter brought me a glass of sparkling Prosecco (on the house) to have with the dessert.
Glad MrC was driving!

We called to see some dear friends of ours on the way home whom we haven't seen for over 12 months. Lots and lots of laughter later we left for the drive home.
I've had a great day!

It's a good job birthdays only come once a year!
(and if you wonder about my age I'm 70 in two years time, and who's bothered!
You are as young as you feel!!!
