Medallion

I found this in a little hidden away gallery in the V&A at lunchtime today. It was cast by John Jacques Barre, the man responsible for the design and creation of French currency between 1830 & 1855. This medallion was made to commemorate the visit to the Paris Mint in 1833 by King Louis-Philippe and his rather horsey stern looking wife, Marie-Amelie. It's a little bit bigger than a dinner plate.

I like the fact that there are still hidden places left for me to explore each Friday.
