Something You Drew
Opposite this house is what was St Giles Junior and Infant School (It's now private school and chemist). The school secretary was a a Mrs Jones and she lived in this house. She always seemed old to me. I went to St Giles and in the second year of junior school my teacher was Miss Gray (or Grey) and I will have been 8 or 9. I believe it was at this time me and another boy in my class were asked to draw Mrs Jones' house. We were supposedly the most 'arty' of the kids and from a high wall opposite we drew a joint picture of the house you see here. It was framed and presented to Mrs Jones although I'm not sure what the occasion was. I'm wondering if she retired at this point... my mum might know.
A few weeks ago, whilst I was out running, who should I pass but the same person who I drew the picture with. I decided to run with him for a while (he'd done sixteen miles!). I'd not spoken to him for many years and we did a bit of catching up. I mentioned the drawing of this house we did all those years ago. I can't remember the reason he happened to be there but he told me that not so long ago he had occasion to visit the same nursing home that Mrs Jones eventually moved to and on her wall was the drawing. When she died he 'inherited' the drawing and apparently has it in his loft somewhere. It was nice to think she hung it on her wall all those years.
He says it's really bad. It's still probably worth seeing and getting a copy.
