Beautiful brave inspirational girlies!
This is Sue, Joey and Leah.
Today they walked with Ian Botham to raise money for Leukemia and Lymphoma Research. They've raised £1200 so far. Kate, Becky and myself all went to cheer them on. There were several times when I noticed one of us putting our sunglasses down from our head, it wasn't very sunny, I also spent a lot of time looking up and rapidly blinking. It was quite emotional.
This is Joey's story...
Barely able to see, Joanna Pawley thought her head would explode with pain. Her skin red raw and blistered the 30-year-old lay in her hospital bed and wept with exhaustion.
Less than a week earlier the young mum had been a picture of health. But her life had literally been stopped in its tracks by a virulent form of leukaemia.
"To start with I was sure there must have been a mistake - I can even remember telling the nurses I was fine and there was some kind of mix up. But of course, there wasn't"
At the end of her first bout of chemo Joanna got the news she's been waiting for: 95% of the leukaemic cells in her body had been destroyed- She was in remission. Three further sets of chemo followed but spurred on by a good prognosis, Joanna took it all in her stride. Over 5 years on and she is still cancer free.
"The experience has definitely changed me, I certainly don't moan about getting older: I am really looking forward to being 60!"
Joey was 30 when she was diagnosed and had Leah, just a baby then. She is one of the most amazing people I know. With the love and support of her family and friends she just cracks on. Her wonderful mum Sue has been to hell and back. As a mother myself I really can't even begin to imagine what she was going through watching her beautiful daughter suffer.
So girlies, tonight I will raise a glass to you and wish you all the health in the world.
Love you lots xx
