Acoma Pueblo (Sky City)

The Acoma Reservation is about fifty miles west of Albuquerque on I-40, going towards Arizona. Sky City is the actual pueblo on the reservation. Sky City sits about four stories, 400 feet. above the canyon floor. It was first built about one thousand years ago. It was rebuilt in the first half of the 1600's after the Spanish destroyed much of the pueblo. There is a church that was built on the pueblo, but was vacant for some time due to the pueblo revolts when many of the 19 pueblos rose up against the Spanish. The gives tours of the pueblo daily between April and October each year. the res of the time, from what i understand tours are given when asked for only. There are members of the Acoma Tribe that live in Sky City year round.. For heating the use wood. For cooking and refrigerators they use propane. I understand that the tribal members who live on the Sky City do not have TV, radios or other amenities in their homes.
