AIR
The new ride at The Links Market is called AIR. It is the same one that featured as my subject yesterday.
This ride spins 30 people at a time 100 feet above the ground.
This is almost the blip that wasn't!
I had just started taking photos when I was approached by a policeman and shortly joined by two more. I must have looked too professional with my bridge camera mounted on a tripod. No matter that I was outside the fairground and about 100 yards from the ride, they were concerned that I was photographing children!
Yes! 9pm, fading light, moving subjects, far away; and they were concerned about me possibly photographing children! It took over 10 minutes to convince him there was nothing sinister about what I was doing - even so I had to give all my details that were duly noted down in his little pocket book.
I think the authorities are over-emphasising the seriousness of any threat and over-reacting to that perceived threat. Sure, paedophiles are evil and a menace but they are spoiling a fun hobby for everyone else.
When I go back at the weekend with my grandson, I will now feel guilty taking pictures of him. How daft is that!
Oh, by the way, the hundreds of fair-goers taking snaps on their mobile phones were being totally ignored by the police. Don't they know how good many mobile-phone cameras now are?
Sorry: Rant over (for now).
