Beautiful garden shrub

I have been helping a local café to replant their garden with edible things that they can use on their menu.
The owner is not a gardener but she does like fragrant plants. She gave me this poor specimen yesterday to plant for her. It is going to take a miracle, and a lot of tender-loving care if it ever gets to grow into a beautiful garden shrub.
