Mystery Statues

Today was just a studio work day, nothing special. This is a picture taken from my window in the dorm. I've been looking at these statues since the morning we arrived. They are a mystery to me because they aren't part of the campus. I want to know more about them, but asking questions isn't easy when I don't speak more than a few words of the language. I wonder what they are made of and why they are there. If you look closely you can see a torch and part of a crown that probably belongs to a replica of the Statue of Liberty.
