The Yellow Butterfly
Today was my first day at the foundation. Oscar came to pick me up from the hostel a bit after 7.15am so there was definitely no time for breakfast! We took a taxi to the fundadores which is a bit out of town. Some of the kids were already eagerly waiting at the bottom of the street and greeted Oscar and I with a 'good morning' and a kiss.
This school is quite new and still unfinished so it doesn't have many resources but the hard work that has been put into everything by Oscar and the volunteers doesn't go unnoticed. We're painting the rest of the school this Saturday.
The kids from this school were absolutely adorable. A lot better behaved than I would have thought, quite polite and really willing to learn. I met another volunteer Sarah and I spent all my time with the younger ones learning the letters 'u' and 'v'. There was one in particular who I think could be the youngest and Sarah said he never does any work and couldn't believe he had written a hole page of 'u's for me. He was so cute and kept making lion sounds at me. The class was over in no time and the kids put all the chairs and tables away just like they brought them out when they arrived.
I got a taxi back to the hostel and chilled the rest of the afternoon as the classes at the other school were cancelled because Oscar couldn't make it and they're in a pretty poor neighbourhood. I bought some nice lunch food, dozed off in the hammocks and got an early night all ready for another early start in the morning.
