Having just eaten an enormous amount of extremely tasty Mexican-style food at the Blue Parrot with a couple of former colleagues I was in no need of take-away potatoes despite the strange temptingness of the smell when smelt at night in the rain. I am a fan of bakèd potatoes but not of the purchase-baked variety since a couple of dodgy knot-ridden boak-inducing examples suffered in the university refectory at King's Buildings years ago. There were once two branches of a Mexican-style take-away in the city, one somewhere nearish Stockbridge and one handily-placed on South Clerk Street into which it could be popped on the way home on take-away-compatible Friday evenings. Sadly they went the way of such popular tasty Mexican-style restaurants The Haw House and Mother's which is why I try to get round the surviving Mexican-style eating-places in order to do my bit for their continued survival. The Blue Parrot has been overdue a visit since we had to cancel a visit there a few months back when they had to delay their opening one evening after a late delivery but as the current holder of the title of provider of the city's tastiest refried beans a visit cannot be sensibly delayed for long.
