Lapis Lazuli

Lapis Lazuli (or 'Ultramarine' to the artists of Blipland) - this piece is from Firgamu, Afganistan (via Ebay). The natural colour of this beautiful rock is mesmerising. Its fate is to be ground and mixed with egg yolk (and a little gin!) for use in an icon.

WIKI: Lapis was ground and processed to make the pigment ultramarine for tempera paint and, more rarely, oil paint. Its usage as a pigment in oil paint ended in the early 19th century when a chemically identical synthetic variety, often called French ultramarine, became available.

Feeling a little better than yesterday but still sleeping most of the time. Experiencing some pain in back. No wheelchair today.
