Hard, uncomfortable and boring

A rather unexpected evening sat in a&e with a friend with suspected appendicitis. There are so many things I wish I knew: Why are the seats so hard and uncomfortable? Why don't they put something on the telly other than a small series of adverts for the hospital and instructions to sneeze into a tissue? Why does it all take so very long?
