Weeping Cherry
Back to flowers again - well what's the use in growing them if you can't share their beauty. It was between this and a Bearded Iris.
Spent the day taking said straw bale apart and putting a deep mulch on my strawberries, potatoes (I'm trying the under straw method of earthing up this year) and the fruit cage. Nice and warm to kneel on but let's see how effective it is at suppressing weeds.
Now I'll have to water using the seep hoses hidden underneath - just to get it started. The idea is that the straw breaks down slowly and feeds the soil as well.
After all that, I still have half a bale left.
A quick trip to buy a washing line and with the help of pottybob and a net, we managed to get it sort of tied together enough for us to manhandle it through the gate and down the garden.
It didn't break much on the way down but boy was it heavy!
It's now behind the shed I call a studio/onion store, ready for next year. At least I've plenty barley straw to clear algae from the pond and the bale - being looser - is still about my height!
