The Indignity!

A couple of weeks ago, we decided to start living the good life ... so getting some hens was the first step (trying to make a veg garden followed!) .... we contacted the British Hen Welfare Trust because we wanted some ex-battery hens to give a fresh lease of life too! After a secret rendezvous was arranged, we collected our hens ... Henrietta, Janet and Maximus.

We'd spent the day before building a rather Heath Robinson style coup for them to live in and all seemed well.

Until yesterday ... Henrietta seemed a little under the weather, and a tadge bloated! Thankfully we have some hen owning neighbours who whizzed round at the sound of our emergency and gave the following advice ...

It appears that Henrietta is egg bound - bunged up .....

The cure .... force fed some epsom salts, followed by some olive oil

The the indignity of having a warm bath in the sink whilst having the undercarriage massaged for 30 minutes!!!

She seems more on form today and loosening up :-)
