40 Years? No way ....

Over the last couple of weeks the 2 Rory Gallagher groups I belong to on FaceBook have been buzzing with news of something special - this month's issue of Guitarist magazine. To commemorate the 40th anniversary of Rory starting his solo career following the breakup of his original band, Taste, the magazine's highlighted article is a 9 page one on Rory's story, his guitars and equipment, testimonials from other modern guitar greats who were influenced by him (amongst whom are Queens Brian May - who attributes his sound to Rory, a great hero of his - Slash of Guns 'n' Roses fame, and Joe Bonamassa) and lots of other info.
Today I finally grabbed myself a copy - so there's much reading to be done! :)))
Can it really be 40 years ago? I first became a huge fan of Rory's when an ex-boyfriend of mine said I really HAD to hear the new live album On the Boards (the second album) by a band called Taste, who had a brilliant young Irish guitarist destined for great things (I have a lot to thank my ex for!). Rory never achieved huge commercial fame - he never wanted it - but he could fill a venue like Hammersmith Odeon no problem. His fans are legion ....
And I feel old :(((

RIP Rory 2/3/48 - 14/6/95
Of course I have to have a music link here - and Rory said it so well himself (the best performance of this surely, from Golder's Green in '74 and from the Calling Hard double live CD) I wonder who'll be your sweet man when I'm gone .....
