Last tree standing
It didn't look like being a very good day and the question was Dunnet Beach (east of here) or Strathy Beach (west of here)? It looked dark towards the east but bright-er on the west. So, we took off to Strathy...and, as usual, our breath was taken away 1) by the awesome view that greets you when you leave the car park and 2) by the northerly wind that was blowing directly into our faces!
Not a soul in sight so who was to know what drama was about to unfold:
Drama No. 1: Penny (dog) wandered off and got stuck on the cliff with us down on the beach shouting at her not to jump and to stay where she was, dog threatening to fall down the 50+ metres to get to us. In the end, daughter Y climbed up and around behind her and lowered her down to me standing on the rocks!
Drama No 2 - while clambering among the rocks, Kevan jumped off and nearly dropped his camera into the churning waves.
Drama No 3 - we crawled through a cave to a smaller beach and while exploring, a large wave came in and caught Penny by surprise from behind, dragging her out with it and forcing her to swim (something she doesn't do readily) to get back out. Everyone was laughing at her except me - I saw panic in her eyes, honest, I did! Poor Pens.
But all's well that ends well and it was then home to hot Heinz tomato soup and a pot of tea!
