iPads are for playing games

I see this every day on mobiles and iPads games, games, games.

A Chinese lady, I sort of know, told me she gave away her iPad I enquired "Why?"
Her reply "It's only useful for playing games"

One thing that's starkly different between east and west is books. Books here are for studying and learning not for relaxation or entertainment. I live in a part of Shenzhen with a fair number of expats and it's not unusual to foreigners reading books and the local Chinese population playing games on their phones or other devices. Am I getting too old?
