Round Tower

at Kinneigh, nr Enniskeane

This is apparently on the site of an ancient monastery. Its original purpose is not known though there are many theories. My daughter was taught at school that the towers were built to provide refuge to the monks from the Vikings.
This one is unique in that its base is hexagonal.

I drove by it this morning to a friend who lives near it. We went off from there on a shopping trip to try to find something to wear to a wedding. We weren't specially successful but had a good laugh and enjoyed the day out.
