It's been busy lately
Happened yesterday. The choir was singing at the loft in the local church on account of Easter. The second time we were supposed to stand up and gather in front of the organ, everything wasn't all right. My Grandpa didn't stand up from his seat on the utmost row; he seemed anguished, gacking and gasping at the same time, while the cold sweat ran down his face. All of a sudden, he collapsed and started trembling uncontrollably.
No time was to be wasted, so I called the emergency number, as two other members of the choir ran to Grandpa in case of opening his tie to ease breathing and so on. At the same time the service had stopped and the church was all silent. I checked Grandpa's pulse, for he had stopped trembling but was unconscious. Pulse found - good.
The emergency centre asked for some details (like who, how old, where and what) and decided to send an ambulance, which soon arrived. Before the ambulance arrived, Grandpa had woken up being confused and pale. He was able to walk (though actually that was what he wanted to do, because a big man is hard to be controlled over - especially when not very conscious), and went down the stairs with our help.
Grandpa exited the church and tottered down the stairs before chucking up on the churchyard. The ambulance arrived and the paramedics took him inside the car in case of some blood tests and stuff. After that, they decided to take him to hospital.
I drove Grandpa's car to their place, where I picked Grandma aboard before driving to the hospital. Grandma was of course shocked, and when we entered the first-aid station, she nearly fainted herself. Grandpa was there, still pale and queasy, but at the right place of getting the right cure.
At that time, they didn't know yet what was the reason behind Grandpa's terrible spasm. Mom arrived taking me home after some time, and I left Grandma and Pa at the station. Happily, they both returned in the evening with the results: a mild infarct, but more pedantic information will follow after. The quick action the choir performed was in a crucial position of protecting Grandpa's health.
I visited Grandma and Pa today. Grandpa seemed doing fine, and had got some medicine for his heart. Yesterday's was such a harsh experience, but happily everything turned fine.
Remember people, it's always important to know what to do and in what order in an emergency situation. That's why updating your first aid skills regularly is just wise, because it can save lives.
