Who Put That There?

After driving past this spot many times in the past, I only recently noticed the large rock sitting just off the road.
It reminded be about a book I read called "The Testament of Gideon Mack" by James Robertson where the main character is running through a wood when he notices a large stone that had not been there previously...... !
