skill base

This is a jumper my nan started knitting for me when i was 7. A few years ago. Next to a wee thing I am knitting for my nephew. The last baby jumper took me 5 years so I'm keeping it simpler and hoping for quicker this time.
My nan used to knit all my grandads knee high socks and jumpers- he was a gamekeeper so they had to be fine. She tells me when the heels were worn through she would just rip them back to the ankle and reknit the foot. I waste so much...and so much lost craftskill.
I am motivating her to try and finish it as I think I know a boy in France who it would fit just fine. X
