Day 3

This is Murko - recovering from yesterday's surgery in his hospital cage. He is playing a complicated game involving a bike tyre wrapped around his middle, biting his feet and standing on his head - sometimes all at once - with a huge grin on his face. It always amazes me how these bears, that have been caged and abused for years accept going back into cages temporarily when they have to with us.... I think they understand and trust us a bit... and I'm not being all gooey about it - It's not like they're living the life they should be - they are not in the wild and will never be able to have their freedom. And I'm sure many of them resent that and don't understand why. But it's nice to catch moments like this..... He was in the same area where I was monitoring another bear recovering from anaesthetic. We knocked out another 4 bears today - in a 13 hour marathon - to have their eyes assessed by the specialists.... i probably won't even be able to string 2 words together by day 7 :)
