ILLUMINATION

Another blip from my "stuff" collection, chosen for Good Friday.

I'm not particularly spiritual, but I love illuminated manuscripts, and I have a collection of Spode plates inspired by them. This one is based on the Four Gospels in the library of the Abbey of St Gall in Switzerland, although they were originally written and illuminated in Ireland in the 8th Century. It's actually more gilded and shiny than it looks here. I have happily just found an online illustrated catalogue of illuminated manuscripts, so even more time-wasting opportunities open up before me.

I'll be working for most of the weekend to make up for the utter torpor that has gripped me for most of the past week. Enjoy whatever you're doing, blippers, especially those of you taking a much-deserved break from work.

PS: B warned me this morning that I shouldn't get obsessive about Blip - which, if you knew him, is deeply ironic!
