Guillotine Lock
The west gate of the guillotine stop lock at Lifford Lane, Kings Norton, Birmingham, England.
This lock was constructed to prevent water loss between the Stratford-upon-Avon Canal and the Worcester and Birmingham Canal which meet 200 metres to the west of the lock.
These gates, dating from 1814, and replacing a more conventional four gate, wide stop lock, are now permanently open as both canals are operated by British Waterways.
The lock is Grade II* listed and also a Scheduled Ancient Monument.
Whilst out for a walk this evening along the Stratford-upon-Avon Canal, we spotted a Kingfisher-such a beautiful vibrant blue colour-unfortunately no time for a shot-he was so quick
